National Dairy Council

The National Dairy Council (NDC) champions the role of quality pasture-based dairy and its nutrition benefits in supporting healthier, more active living. The private farmer-funded marketing agency works to promote and protect Ireland’s dairy reputation at home and abroad and believes in a future in which Irish dairy is recognised and trusted as a vital part of people’s diet and general health across the life stages, indispensable to Ireland’s social and economic wellbeing.

In September 2009, the National Dairy Council introduced a packaging mark giving consumers in the Republic of Ireland the reassurance of knowing that if they buy milk or cream with the NDC Guarantee, it is both farmed and processed locally. This NDC stamp appears on some 350 milk and cream products in the Republic of Ireland, ranging from brand leaders to ‘private label’ or ‘own label’ products and in doing so helps to promote some 12,500 jobs in the Irish economy. The NDC and Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards are held each year and celebrate excellence in Irish dairy farming and with numerous winners and one overall champion who receives the QMA trophy each year.

Last year the NDC launched a new marketing campaign called ‘Irish Dairy – The Complete Natural’ aimed at highlighting the benefits of dairy in the diet to a younger generation of consumers.
